bullet

·        We wish to develop and maintain links between the various centres which carry out or have carried out heart and or lung transplantation within the UK.

bullet

·        To liaise with other bodies concerned with the promotion of organ donation through the provision of recreational and sporting activities in the UK and elsewhere.

bullet

·        To play a full and active role in the development and maintenance of links with our European counterparts through membership of the European Heart and Lung Transplant Federation (EHLTF).

bullet

·        To facilitate the participation of a UK Heart and Lung Transplant Team in the European Transplant Games.

In the beginning.....

.....the origins of the association began in 1989 when around 30 heart transplants from various UK hospitals decided to enter as a UK Team in the first European Heart Transplant Games which were held in Gorssel, Netherlands.  Following the success of those Games and the following Games held in Paris in 1990 a loose knit group of British transplants and friends organised the 3rd European Heart Transplant Games in 1991 which were held in Hayes, Middlesex.

Since then the BHLTA has been a key member of the European Federation.

A message from our chairman can be found on the Information page.
