Statement from the EHLTF re cancellation of 2020 Games in Vitoria

Statement from the EHLTF re cancellation of 2020 Games in Vitoria

To all teammanagers, participants and supporters off the European Games in Vitoria-Gasteiz 2020

Dear friends,

This morning the MC had a meeting about the developments of the Corona virus and the consequences for our games.

In consultation with the LOC of Vitoria and on the basis of the advices of the Spanish authorities we have decided to cancel our games in June 2020.
We do so with pain in our hearts but considering the risks for our members it is the best option on this moment.

We received a message from the LOC in which they promise to pay the money back for the registration to the people/teams who did a payment to Vitoria. The teams and persons that payed their money to Jenny Bjoerk (our treasurer) will receive their money back from her.

If and when we will organize the games in Spain we don’t know at this moment. A delay of a couple of months is not a option: the hotels and sports accommodations have to be booked one year in front.

Organizing the games next year is no option because there will be World Games in 2021.

Because we already have a candidate for organizing the games in 2022 this year will neither be an option. Later on we will discuss this matter with the LOC of Vitoria.

Later this year we will announce the General Assambly. At this moment we don’t know when and where we will our GA. Following the developments of the virus we will inform you all later.

We hope you understand and support our decision. We wish all the best to all and good health.

On behalf of the MC

BHLTA were an amazing help when I needed it. They were always there for me and nothing was too big of an ask.
