Krakin’ Krakow

It was a pleasure to be present for the final day of the European Transplant & Dialysis Sporting Championships in the former Polish capital.

It was athletics and the weather was glorious. Regrettably there were no BHLTA members competing. There were, however, British Kidney and Liver transplantees and European Heart & Lung Transplantees of which I got to meet a few:

William, a Kidney transplantee, from Dumbartonshire played petanque and Table Tennis

Ward, a sixteen year old liver transplantee, from Coldstream won a shot putt Bronze but has under his belt two World Golds and three European Silvers and holds the world record for the age group 50-59 at 11.33m

Nicole, a kidney transplantee, with her mum and dad is an exceptional swimmer. You may remember an article about her at the Oxford Young Adults weekend earlier in the year.

Stephanie is one of our Belgian DOUBLE-DOUBLE Lungers having been transplanted in 2001 and 2003. Here is Stephanie (left) with her parents Raymond and Marie. Stephanie is not yet quite able to enter running events but excels at Table Tennis, Badminton and Pétanque.
